ANNA-JANE CASEY, Saldford (Greater Machester, England) 1972

English singer, dancer and actress who has starred in musicals as CATS, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, GREASE, STARLIGHT EXPRESS or MACK & MABEL.
Her professional debut (in musical theatre) was in ANNIE at the age of 10, playing Tessie.
Other theatre credits include CATS as Rumpleteaser (West End debut at the age of 16), West End productions of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT at the London Palladium, GREASE at Dominion Theatre, STARLIGHT EXPRESS at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, WEST SIDE STORY at the Prince Edward Theatre and on the national tour, and CHICAGO (first appearance as Velma Kelly in 1998, having reprised the role on numerous occasions). Other musicals include MACK & MABEL at the Watermill Theatre, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE at the Menier Chocolate Factory and FORBIDDEN BROADWAY also at the Menier.
Currently she is rehearsing for a new production of ´Comedy of Errors´ at Regents Park through 24th June to 31st July 2010. Anna-Jane Casey is also going to appear at the BBC Proms 2010 Festival, starring at the ´A Celebration of Rodgers and Hammerstein´ concert on 22th August.
- The first musical you saw and/or most impressed you: CHARLIE GIRL, Bonnie Langford was incredible.
- You would like to make a duet with: Shaun Escoffrey singing the theme from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.
- Webber or Sondheim?: Sorry, neither! Jule Styne or Jerry Herman
- London or New York?: New York as I have played many times in London but never the Big Apple!
- Do you keep the programmes of the musicals you watch?: Yes, so when I can’t dance or sing anymore I have proof I once Could!
- The worst moment you’ve had live on the stage was (as a performer and/or as a spectator): I have fallen over in many shows and forgotten words which is very embarrassing!
- An unforgettable moment (as a performer and/or as a spectator): Chita Rivera as Roxie Hart in CHICAGO…legendary. And playing PIAF was a phenomenal experience.
- Do you have any superstitions before the opening night?: I always cross myself and touch wood before I go on.
- A musical character that you would like to BE (not perform): Maria Von Trapp because she gets her man and 7 children without having to give birth to them!
- What do you like best/least about your work? The variety and the people you meet are great but 8 shows a week is exhausting.
- What is your favorite musical movie? WEST SIDE STORY.
- The last CD/DVD related to Musicals that you have bought is: VICTOR/VICTORIA.
- What is your favorite line from a musical: "If he’s going south, then I’m going north, if he’s going back then I’m going forth, wherever he aint" from MACK AND MABEL.
- Agree or disagree with TV Shows finding new Musical Stars: It doesn’t bother me one way or the other. Talent always shines through.
- You feel proud of: Being a mum and a marathon runner!
- Of this moment you’re living as an actress, the most important thing to you is: my home and family.
- Other projects you are working on: building a treehouse for my little girl and making dinner for my gorgeous husband!
