Under the slogan ‘We Have a Dream’, Spanish website todoMUSICALES began last February a poll among its users to discover if they all shared the dream of watching on a Spanish stage young performers from West End and Broadway in concert. The result was resounding: 99% of our users shared this dream. The users themselves selected the artists they wished to see onstage. Among them there was Julie Atherton, who was one the five more voted performers. todoMUSICALES team has worked to bring the British actress to Spain... and finally the dream has come true.

Julie Atherton will perform at the Auditori´s Sala Oriol Martorell in Barcelona on Monday, April 26 at 21.30h. This will be Atherton first solo concert outside the United Kingdom.

Under the title ‘Julie Atherton sings... todoMUSICALES’ , the British actress will perform some of the songs that have been part of her career, plus themes from other musical shows. At the piano will be Mark Collins, musical director of the evening. The concert will also feature three guest artists, who are Spanish musical theatre professionals. They will sing a duet with the British actress, and again, todoMUSICALES users will be able to suggest who these guest artists should be.

This concert coincides with the second online anniversary of todoMUSICALES website, and aims to be the first in a series featuring artists from West End and Broadway.

Born in Preston (London) in 1978, Julie Atherton has an extensive career in musical theatre. She made her West End debut in the lead role of Sophie in MAMMA MIA! She then played the role of Serena in the national tour of FAME, a role she subsequently reprised in the West End. She is co-founder member of the company of `Notes from New York´, which is a series of shows bringing the works of US composers to the West End stage. She has performed in five of the six Notes From New York shows to date: in 2009 she starred in the productions of Jason Robert Brown´s THE LAST FIVE YEARS and Jonathan Larson´s TICK... TICK... BOOM! Atherton has appeared in several concerts in London, such as `A Spoonful of Stiles & Drew´ or `Christmas in New York´. Theatre credits of the British actress also include new musicals as ORDINARY DAYS by Adam Gwon (2008) or THROUGH THE DOOR by Laurence Mark and Judy Freed (2009). In 2008 she released her first solo album, `A Girl Of Few Words´. Her most recent appearance in the West End was as Kate Monster / Lucy the Slut in AVENUE Q. Atherton became part of the original London cast of the musical in 2006, and in December 2008 she returned to the production and continued playing the roles until October, 2009.

Musical director and composer Mark Collins has worked in musicals such as  CITY OF ANGELS; MYTHS & HYMNS by Adam Guettel; NEVER FORGET by Take That; the recent successful London revival of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES; JERSEY BOYS, ONCE UPON AT THE ADELPHI; SWEENEY TODD; and OVER THE THRESHOLD by Christopher Hamilton; among many others.

On her concert in Barcelona, Julie Atherton will sing songs as “Come to your senses” from TICK, TICK... BOOM!, “Climbing Uphill” from THE LAST 5 YEARS or “There’s a Fine Fine Line” from AVENUE Q. She will also advance some theme from her second album, that will be released in a few months.
