Gareth Gates headlines the gala concert ‘Momentous Musicals’

The English artist who has star in the West End productions of JOSEPH and LES MISÉRABLES will lead this homage to musical theatre featuring songs from shows such as WEST SIDE STORY, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, WICKED and MISS SAIGON on Saturday 19th July 2012

Gareth Gates (JOSEPH, LES MISÉRABLES) headlines ‘Momentous Musicals’, a world première gala concert at New Wimbledon Theatre, for one night only on Thursday 19th July 2012.

Gareth Gates leads this sophisticated homage to musical theatre, featuring songs from much-loved shows including WEST SIDE STORY, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, WICKED and MISS SAIGON. He is joined by a cast of West End stars including Jonathan Ansell (A TALE OF TWO CITIES), Daniel Boys (AVENUE Q), Emma Williams (LOVE STORY) and Rachael Wooding (JERSEY BOYS, HAIRSPRAY), an amazing ensemble of dancers and a live on stage band.

Gareth Gates returns to the New Wibledon Theatre to headline ‘Momentous Musicals’ following an acclaimed season as Prince Charming in its 2008 pantomime CINDERELLA. Since finishing second on the original ‘Pop Idol’, Gareth has had a varied musical career. To date he has sold over 3 million singles in the UK and toured extensively as a solo artist, playing to sold out arenas. Gareth’s musical theater career began with the gala concert ‘A Spoonful of Stiles & Drewe’ produced by Speckulation Entertainment in 2008. He went on to play the title role of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT in the West End, toured the UK as Marius in the 25th Anniversary cast of LES MISÉRABLES and subsequently reprised that role in the West End. He most recently played Cain in the charity gala performance of Stephen Schwartz’s CHILDREN OF EDEN at the Prince of Wales Theatre. Currently Gareth is rehearsing for the world première of the brand new British musical LOSERVILLE at West Yorkshire Playhouse.

Jonathan Ansell is best known for his sensational tenor voice and shot to fame with pop opera group G4 on the first series of The X Factor. Previous theatre credits include the lead role of The Man in Andrew Lloyd Webber´s WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND. He most recently starred in A TALE OF TWO CITIES at The Charing Cross Theatre, London.

Daniel Boys is well known for his appearance on the hugely successful BBC TV talent show ´Any Dream Will Do´. Previous credits include the title role in the world première of a new musical production of PETER PAN and the role of Princeton/Rod in the West End production of AVENUE Q  for which he won the 2009 Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers´ Choice Award for Best Takeover in a Role.

Joining them will be Olivier Award Nominee Emma Williams who made her West End debut as Truly Scrumptious in the original cast of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG. Her other theatre credits include Luisa in ZORRO and Jenny in LOVE STORY.

Rachael Wooding played recently the role of Mary Delgado in the long-running West End production of JERSEY BOYS. Her previous West End credits include the lead roles of Amber in HAIRSPRAY, Meatloaf in WE WILL ROCK YOU and Serena in FAME. She has also took part of the UK tour productions of FOOTLOOSE and EVITA; and as a concert performer she has appeared in ‘Christmas in New York’ and in ‘Michael Ball’s Summer Concert’. She recently appeared on TV in a featured role on ITV’s ‘Coronation Street’ and can be heard on the ‘Coronation Street: The Musical’ cast recording.

2012 ArtsEd graduates Luke Alexander, Ashley Cooper, Gabriela García, Sinead Kenny, Felicity Kirwin and Sam Lathwood will join young professionals Stef Booth (AFTER THE TURN), Matthew John Gregory (GUYS AND DOLLS), Christopher Mitchell (12 Irish Tenors) and Hayley Ellen Scott (HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL) as the featured ensemble of this gala concert.

‘Momentous Musicals’ is produced by Neil Eckersley for Speckulation Entertainment. It is directed by John Garfield-Roberts, with musical direction by George Dyer and choreography by Racky Plews.
