The concert version of Jason Robert Brown’s musical AQUESTS 5 ANYS / THE LAST 5 YEARS starred by the West End star Julie Atherton and by the catalan actor and director Daniel Angles will be presented at Barcelona’s L’Auditori (Sala Oriol Martorell) one night only, on the 3rd November 2011 (10pm) after its opening at Girona’s Temporada Alta Festival on the 1st November.

This acclaimed musical of Jason Robert Brown will be presented in two different languages –Catalan and English- for the first time ever. The production will be directed by Daniel Anglès and Sergi Cuenca will be the musical director.

AQUESTS 5 ANYS / THE LAST 5 YEARS at Barcelona’s Auditori means the return of Julie Atherton and Daniel Anglès to the place when we first shared the stage together, in April 2010, performing MISS SAIGON’S duet “Sun and Moon” in the concert ‘Julie Atherton sings… todoMUSICALES’.

THE LAST 5 YEARS is an emotionally wrought and moving song cycle, in which creative tensions combine with complexities of the heart. Newly published novelist Jamie and aspiring actress Cathy tell the tale of their raw and impassioned relationship in opposite directions and from differing standpoints. Unique in structure yet familiar in its universally resounding themes, this celebrated two-hander reminds us it’s possible to feel claustrophobically close to and yet worlds apart from the one you hold closest to your heart.

Julie Atherton played the role of Cathy in a recent West End production of THE LAST FIVE YEAR which opened at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket in October 2008, and was restages at Duchess Theatre in May 2009. Atherton starred this show with Paul Spicer as Jamie.

Daniel Anglès played Jamie in the Catalan versión of the musical produced by El Musical Mes Petit, the musical theatre company leaded by Angles. AQUESTS 5 ANYES opened at Petit Palau of Barcelona’s Palau de la Musica in January 2009. The show was co-starred by Pilar Capellades as Cathy.

THE LAST 5 YEARS premiered in Chicago in 2001 starred by Lauren Kennedy and Norbert Leo Butz and was then produced at Off-Broadway’s Minetta Lane Theatre’s in March 2002 with Sherie Rene Scott and Norbert Leo Butz. The show premiered in London at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2006.

Jason Robert Brown is a leading member of a new generation of American musical theatre composers. His four major musicals as composer and lyricist include: 13, a musical written with Robert Horn and Dan Elish, winner of the LA Drama Critics Circle Award in 2008; THE LAST FIVE YEARS, which was cited as one of Time Magazine’s 10 Best of 2001 and won Drama Desk Awards for Best Music and Best Lyrics; PARADE, a musical written with Alfred Uhry and directed by Harold Prince, which premiered at Lincoln Center Theatre in 1998, and subsequently garnered Jason the Tony Award for Original Score; and SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD, a theatrical song cycle directed by Daisy Prince, which played Off-Broadway in 1995. In the wings: HONEYMOON IN VEGAS, a musical adaptation of the 1992 film, written with Andrew Bergman; THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY, a musical adapted with Marsha Norman from the bestselling novel; and THE CONNECTOR, a new chamber musical opening in 2012.

AQUESTS 5 ANYS / THE LAST 5 YEARS will be produced in Barcelona by El Musical Més Petit.
