Maria Friedman and Daniel Evans will perform Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II songs in the concert ‘The Magical World of Rodgers & Hammerstein’ that will take place on March 14th 2010 at the Barbican Hall.

The concert program include songs as “Hello Young Lovers” from THE KING AND I; “People Will Say We´re in Love” from OKLAHOMA!; “Some Enchanted Evening” from SOUTH PACIFIC; “If I Loved You” and “You´ll Never Walk Alone” from CAROUSEL; and also songs from THE SOUND OF MUSIC. Maria Friedman has won 3 Laurence Olivier Award, two of them for the Best Actress (PASSION 1997 y RAGTIME 2004) and one for the Best Performance (Maria Friedman – By Special Arrangement 1995). Daniel Evans first singing role was in CANDIDE directed by Trevor Nunn, for which he was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical in 2000. After the success of Candide, Evans was soon cast in another singing role, this time the Stephen Sondheim musical MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, for which he won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical (2001. He obtained his second Olivier in another Sondheim musical, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE which, after its successful run in the West End was transferred to Broadway, where Evans obtained a Tony nomination for the Best Actor.

Rodgers and Hammerstein created a string of popular Broadway musicals in the 1940s and 1950s during what is considered the golden age of the medium. With Rodgers composing the music and Hammerstein adding the lyrics, five of their shows, OKLAHOMA!, CAROUSEL, SOUTH PACIFIC, THE KING AND I and THE SOUND OF MUSIC, were outstanding successes. In all, among the many accolades that their shows (and their film versions) garnered were thirty-four Tony Awards, fifteen Academy Awards, the Pulitzer Prize, and two Grammys.
