‘The Music Box’ is a new album in which Nottinghamshire-based composer Gareth Peter Dicks blends the familiar styles of rock, pop, classical and musical theatre to create a memorable musical journey for the listener. Add into the mix his distinctive approach to writing lyrics (with one song finding great emotional depth by using a piece of classic Shakespearian text) and the result is an album that crosses the boundaries of musical theatre into contemporary pop-rock so as to be accessible and enjoyed by all.

‘The Music Box’ features different West End artists such as Ricardo Afonso (WE WILL ROCK YOU), Chris Barton, Gina Beck (THE PHANTOM, LES MIS), Richard Dempsey (HONK, FAME), Liam Doyle (HAIRSPRAY, HSM), Rebecca Lock (MARTIN GUERRE, AVENUE Q), Jeff Nicholson (LES MIS), Sarah Earnshaw (WICKED), Katie Rowley Jones (WICKED, SISTER ACT), Ross Hunter (WWRY, LEGALLY BLONDE), Laura Pitt-Pulford (SUNSET BOULEVARD, PARADE), Liam Tamne (HAIRSPRAY, HAIR), Gemma Sutton (IMAGINE THIS), Martin Neely (LES MIS) and Abi Finley (FAME).

Gareth, who is well-known in the world of musical theatre for composing the concept album BLUEBIRD: THE MUSICAL which featured Ramin Karimloo (PHANTOM, LOVE NEVER DIES, LES MIS), said about the recording of the album: “This has been one of the biggest and most complex projects I have ever undertaken; more so than any musical that I have written to date. However in producing this album of original music I have been able to write styles of songs that wouldn’t sit comfortably in a typical musical, whilst also providing the perfect opportunity to re-imagine some of my earlier songs from my shows ESCAPE, A MILLION GRAINS OF SANDS y BLUEBIRD.”
