DASHAUN YOUNG, Buffalo (New York) 1984

His professional debut in musical theatre was as a singer dancer in RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR.

Other theatre credits include HAIRSPRAY (1st National tour) and EMERALD MAN (workshop). He has also starred in Regional productions of: HAIRSPRAY, HELLO DOLLY and AIDA. Dashaun received training at California State University, Fullerton.

Currently he is performing the role of Simba in the Broadway production of THE LION KING.


- The first musical you saw and/or most impressed you: RAGTIME... it changed my life.. that´s when i decided to study musical theater.

- You would like to make a duet with: Brian Stokes Mitchell singing: “You´re Nothing Without Me” from CITY OF ANGELS haha :-)

- Webber or Sondheim? Sondheim :-)

- London or New York? NYC baby! But London is pretty darn awesome too…

- Do you keep the programmes of the musicals you watch? I used to… Every single one... Even if i saw it more than once... But the amount of them began to get out of control... haha...

- The worst moment you’ve had live on the stage was (as a performer and/or as a spectator): Drawing a complete blank during a scene.

- An unforgettable moment (as a performer and/or as a spectator): Is lining chairs along the front of the stage and singing through THE LION KING because the set would not work correctly.

- Do you have any superstitions before the opening night? Not really... A good workout at the gym.  

- A musical character that you would like to BE (not perform): Barnaby in HELLO DOLLY... He´s so fun and charming without a care in the world...

-  A character of your opposite sex that you would like to perform: Aida.. now that´s a ROLE :-)

- What do you like best/least about your work? Best is that I get to go onstage 8 times a week and do what I love... Worst is that the repeating of movement so often can ware down the body a bit...

- What is your favorite musical movie? CABARET.

- The last CD/DVD related to Musicals that you have bought is: Cd of MEMPHIS.

- What is your favorite line from a musical? “There´s no 9 train now…” from IN THE HEIGHTS.

- Agree or disagree with TV Shows finding new Musical Stars: Hmm... Not sure... I will say I feel like they loose out on some strong talent because some people don´t want to go through an audition process on camera…

- You feel proud of: Making my mom proud.

- Of this moment you’re living as an actor, the most important thing to you is: Making the most of it.

- Other projects you are working on: Just finished a workshop of a new show and filmed my first film...
